Calcium is a core building block of coral skeletons and is essential for the health and growth of SPS, LPS, and coralline algae. Calcium is also vital for muscle and nerve function, glycogen metabolism, cell division, and the activation of various enzymes and hormones within cells. In a reef aquarium, calcium is rapidly consumed and must be replenished daily.
